Caring is what we do, in our centers and beyond. We wanted to share that energy with all our communities, so we turned to something with a personal touch: like a well-crafted, hand-written greeting card. Together with a group of independent artists, we designed virtual Caring Cards. In honor of National Do Something Nice Day, we helped everyone write something nice to someone they care about, while supporting arts education through the Boys & Girls Clubs.
Caring Cards Across the Nation
Anyone could fill out a Caring Card online and send it to their loved ones via email or text. Each card’s design was inspired by the artist’s definition of what caring meant to them. Some illustrated scenes of one-on-one caregiving, while others turned to cute animals to send an uplifting message. There was something for everyone to choose from, no matter what the occasion for their Caring Card.
Sharing Care in Our Backyard
To get everyone into the caring spirit and bring attention to the good work of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania, we set up two life-size Caring Cards near a popular sports stadium in Pittsburgh, PA. Sports fans and families out for a stroll stopped at these art installations to learn more about the cause, scan the QR code to send their own Caring Card and pose for pictures.
We were proud to work with the independent artists behind each card, especially to support such an important cause as youth arts and education.
Caring for Arts Education at the Boys & Girls Clubs
We gifted 330 deluxe art kits to every child at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania, complete with paint sets and colored pencils, to help keep their creativity flowing. To guide them on that journey, we teamed up with local Caring Cards artist, Trenita Finney. Trenita coached them through a painting workshop based on her own Caring Card design.
“I’ve always wanted to give back to my community,” said Trenita. “Having resources for the kids and inspiring them to keep going—that’s what I needed when I was younger.” The children got familiar with their new art tools and had a blast putting their own creative spins on the assignment. We learned from the kids’ imaginations, too. “They’re making new memories and creating new possibilities,” said Scott Koskoski, VP of Advancement and Philanthropy at the BGCWPA. “The fact that MedExpress can come alongside us to make that happen means the world to our kids.” The Boys & Girls Clubs’ mission is to create access and opportunities for the children who need it most. We’re grateful for the chance to contribute to that vision.
Giving back is a key part of our culture. We’ve always supported education in our communities, and we’ll continue to work with these bright young minds. Team members across the country never hesitate to show their support locally and feel honored to help their neighbors outside of their center walls through volunteerism. Caring Cards truly painted that picture, and we look forward to sharing even more care in the future.
