The Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council is ensuring many people across West Virginia have a warm holiday season by partnering with 25 MedExpress Urgent Care locations to collect T-shirts as part of the ‘Covered with Care’ Project. The girl scouts will make blankets from the T-shirts and donate them to local nonprofit organizations.

Since its inception in 1912, Girl Scouts has been fulfilling its promise to “help people at all times” through an array of community service projects. For ‘Covered with Care,’ girl scouts are collecting T-shirts from the community to create no-sew T-shirt blankets.

Blankets will be donated to homeless shelters, flood-relief organizations, nursing homes, animal shelters, and other organizations. This year, MedExpress centers will serve as community collection sites for the T-shirts.

Nearly all MedExpress locations in the state are accepting donations of new or gently used T-shirts. Donations are accepted seven days a week, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. For a list of MedExpress West Virginia locations, visit https://www.medexpress.com/local-centers/west-virginia.aspx.

“Part of our mission as Girl Scouts is to make the world a better place,” said Beth Casey, CEO of Girl Scouts of Black Diamond.

“We encourage girls to take action in their local communities and make a difference in their own neighborhoods. Through this partnership with MedExpress, Girl Scouts will ensure that their friends and neighbors stay warm this winter and are ‘covered with care.’”

“MedExpress is grateful for the opportunity to partner with Girl Scouts of Black Diamond to help people stay warm this holiday season,” said Danin Greusel, MedExpress West Virginia Field Coordinator. “It takes about 28 shirts to make one blanket, so we encourage the community to collect those T-shirts and stop by MedExpress to make a donation.”
